Bishop&Valderas LLC. is San Antonio based artists- Kim Bishop and Luis Valderas. As a production house and art consultants we have over 50 years of combined experience in the arts, public education and community engagement. As social engagement artists we operate a Pop-Up Industrial Press—The A3 Press—doing guerrilla style street printing with industrial equipment. We create work/events that seek fulfillment, identity and social impact at three levels- The Individual, The Collective and The Community. This creates an opportunity for transformation, healing and growth as these levels interact.
Our mission is to cultivate cultural capital by building bridges across communities through creative innovation as individual artists and as a creative collective while engaging the community in meaningful public art events and learning experiences that heal and bring together.
Over the past ten years we have worked with a number of artists, communities, institutions, municipalities, corporations and arts organizations on a multiple range of social engagement arts projects that focused primarily on building bridges and healing in the community through the arts. We have collaborated with a network of community artists that we fostered through an arts incubator we co-founded in 2012—3rd Space Art Gallery/Research Incubator. A recent example of this type of collaboration is the Pearl Brewery large scale print suite "The River Print Suite" and permanent sculpture installation project at the Oxbow Tower on Broadway.
In order to accomplish our mission we educate about art and art processes and how these can grow collective cooperation amongst communities and stakeholders. Our core program addresses 3 strands: Artists needs, Educational needs and Community needs.
-
San Antonio artists need opportunity to exhibit their work, writers/patrons/collectors to recognize their work and knowledge/experience of/instruction on professional practices in the field.
-
The Educational needs in our community are: relevant curriculum & lessons, STEAM teacher workshops and sustainable public outreach workshops by institutions that foster the growth of creatives in our youth. Because of that we have brought together our experience of over 50 years in Public Education to tailor our consulting to complement institutions.
-
Finally, the Community needs to connect with and experience cultural institutions, to understand the value of art by exploring beyond the common experience and it needs knowledge & experience of collaboration in order to grow.
We are available to provide outreach curriculum programing with components that can be powerful contributors to the sustainability of any cultural arts non-profit organization that may be looking to expand their outreach. The components range in subject matter from Artist Training Workshops, and Artist Talks with Exhibits.
We are available for Large Scale Printing Events production and consulting. For more information visit the PPT below
