The Sky is Brown an installation by Luis Valderas @ the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center
The Sky is Brown began as a series inspired by one of the original 9 doors to the UniVision Network headquarters that I was asked to turn into an art piece that represented the network. The 9 doors are all that remains of the original building. It was demolished in 2013 when the property was sold to a real estate developer that built residential lofts in its place. UniVision was the very first Latino Television Network in the americas. It filled the sky-the rivers of radio-telecommunications with programing that brought together the marginalized latino masses of America. In the subsequent installation at the Guadalupe Cultural Art Center I examine and develop a mythos around the idea of transformation through the crossing of borders and boundaries.
